Hello! I have started interviewing clients about their commissioned pieces to learn more about each artwork and what inspired them to want the work created. As this is my first go-round I am testing the blog out on myself and a piece that I created for my family. I hope you enjoy learning more about this painting! Maybe it will inspire you to want a work of art that brings you joy!

Client: Erica

What subject was chosen for this piece?

Kentucky Farmland is a favorite piece based off a photo taken by my husband at a beloved family farm, known as "The Farm" or "Calardo Farm."

What is the significance of this piece?

The farm has been in the family since my mother-in-law was a child. Her father, who recently passed away at the age of 94, bought the land and later the neighboring property stretching 400 acres, where the following 3 generations have made cherished memories. I was introduced to the farm by my husband when we just started dating and have loved our visits, especially meeting up with cousins and their children over the years as the family has grown.

What is your favorite thing about this piece?

This painting of the farm ignites so many memories! The farm is a place of great happiness for me and many in my family, especially my husband and his cousins that grew up spending time at the farm. A favorite memory of mine is when I was 8 months pregnant with my oldest child. Along with many activities to do at the farm, I took a walk to the frog pond and sat down to write at a small table situated near the water. I had no real idea of what I would write, but nature always inspires me. After sitting a while and listening to the wind lightly blowing through the trees, the critters jumping in and out of the water, and the birds chirping, I wrote a letter to my unborn child about the prospect of all the love we were to share. I hope she gets the opportunity to read it when she is older- maybe, just maybe, sitting at the same table by the frog pond.

Where will this artwork be displayed and who will enjoy it?

This painting is in my home where family and friends enjoy it.

What emotions do you feel while looking at this artwork?

I feel nostalgic, calm, and happy when looking at this piece.
